Our team worked with the university’s team as well as several outside contractors, engineers and designers. We interviewed the team about the performance of the system thus far and laid out the plan for the commissioning activities that were to take place.
We began the commissioning process by triggering a fire alarm in three zones and measuring the opening pressure and compartment pressure differentials across the doors for each fire alarm zone. In between testing, each fire alarm zone was reset and enough time to allow zones to equilibrate before the next fire alarm zone. Our team commissioned the smoke alarm system and during the testing, maintenance personnel worked with our team to perform adjustments on door closure systems as they were discovered to be necessary.
One system was found to be operating poorly, and our team recommended installation of a new closure system. Following the commissioning activities and on-site adjustments, we found that differential pressure across each door met code. Therefore, the HVAC system is controlling correctly in smoke control mode.
