Every day it seems that an increasing amount of people are becoming more conscious of what kinds of foods they eat, what kind of products they use, and whether or not there are chemicals in those products that are detrimental to their well-being.

The House approved their newest bill to regulate chemical safety due to the increasing concern American citizens are expressing. The vote was 403-12. This bill, known as the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, gives the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the authority to assess and execute restrictions on certain chemicals that are used in everyday items such as grease removal, paint thinners, and dry cleaning. It decrees that the EPA must review a number of different chemicals used in consumer products and enforce regulations if they show any potential health risks. The bill is set to be signed into law as early as this week, and will be the first historic update to the chemical safety laws in the United States in 40 years.
