UST Investigation
Underground storage tanks (USTs) are a significant source of potential environmental liability. Leaks from USTs are often unnoticed until contamination from the leak becomes apparent at offsite properties owned by 3rd parties. Left unaddressed, leaking USTs can cause widespread groundwater contamination and can pose a threat to indoor air and surface water. EBI has investigated the integrity of more than one thousand USTs nationwide and routinely designs and implements UST removal and replacement programs, and remediation systems to remediate environmental contamination. EBI routinely provides rapid turnaround UST services for single UST locations, and equally rapid service for projects of multiple USTs at multiple locations.
At EBI, we combine expertise in the federal and state-specific regulations governing UST compliance with our vast experience in risk reduction and real estate transactions. EBI creates value for our clients, not only in our proven ability to reduce current UST liabilities, but also in our ability to reduce future liabilities through our knowledge of how regulations will likely evolve and regarding potential impediments to future property sale and financing.
EBI understands that large-scale and expensive excavation of UST contamination is usually not cost effective, unless part of a larger construction excavation program or because rapid remediation is needed, and is often not successful in achieving site cleanup. As an advocate for our clients, EBI applies its regulatory and risk management expertise to moderate the sometimes more aggressive excavation instincts of UST removal contractors who are often paid on a unit cost basis. EBI's independence from disposal facilities and heavy equipment contractors also allows it to obtain the best available pricing for these services for its clients. EBI's UST-removal reports are designed to provide the information necessary, regardless of the presence or absence of contamination, to assure future assessors of the adequacy of the UST removal, thereby avoiding the all-too-often need for future sampling and analysis at the former UST location. EBI has also developed numerous lower-cost methods by which it can satisfactorily demonstrate the absence of UST contamination and quantify the risks associated with UST systems, to property owners, purchasers, and financiers without disruptive UST excavation.
