Facility Decommissioning

Facility closure represents a distinct challenge for industry. Often, there are state notification regulations to be satisfied, and various environmental permits or licenses that need to be terminated or transferred to the new facility occupant or owner. In addition, lease or sale agreements often impose penalties if the facility closure is not completed to a properly protective level for future users. These tasks can involve notification to several different state, local, and federal regulatory agencies and can include tasks such as transfer of wastewater permits, termination of storm water permits, or termination of hazardous waste registrations. There are risk management issues related to potential residual contamination, both inside and outside the buildings.
