Environmental Assessments (EA) are a frequently required component to fulfilling regulatory obligations under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and equivalent state regulations. An EA is a detailed evaluation of the potential consequences of a proposed action on the environment, thus allowing the federal or state government to make an informed determination as to whether the action will or will not have a significant effect on the environment.
